Save money with Snip Snap

It’s something that happens all too often – you are in the checkout line at a store and realize that you left a money-saving coupon at home.

Coupon-clipping is making a resurgence in this economy and smartphones can help you maximize your savings.

Saving money is a snap with Snip Snap -- a new app that turns your smartphone into a coupon library.

The man behind the idea is Ted Mann. “The idea for me was largely born out of me always forgetting my coupons and wanting to find a way to have my wife stop giving me a hard time about it."

Instead of snipping coupons from circulars and mailings, you snap a photo of them. The app scans the coupons and stores them on your phone.

Mann said, "With our app, our active users are reporting they're saving about $40 a week on average."

Snip Snap is free and it includes alerts. Mann said, “We also give you notifications, like reminders, when a coupon is about to expire. When you arrive at a Babies 'R' Us we say hey, don't forget, you've got three coupons waiting to be used. Better go use them or else your wife is going to give you a hard time."

The app launched earlier this year and Mann says users have already uploaded two-million coupons.

Snip Snap also works with Apple's new "Passbook" feature -- essentially a digital wallet for storing things like loyalty cards, tickets, and now coupons.

Snip Snap is currently available for iPhones and iPads. An Android version will be out later this month.
