Police ID Newark man shot while answering knock at door

A 42-year-old Newark man is still in guarded condition at Strong Memorial Hospital after getting shot while answering his own door last Friday morning. It happened at a home on Silver Hill Road in the Village of Newark.
Newark Police say Larry Walrad heard a knock at his back door and when he answered, he saw a suspect with a long gun and turned to run. Investigators say Walrad was shot in the buttocks and the bullet came out his leg. He was bleeding badly and taken to Strong Memorial Hospital by Mercy Flight.
Police Chief Dave Christler says this is the first shooting in Newark in at least six years. He says it appears the victim might know the suspect. “We got a lot calls this morning from concerned neighbors. There is a lot we can not give out. I live very close to where this happened. I myself believe it was isolated and targeted. I don't think we have someone out there who is knocking on doors shooting people but i am sure with the help we have, we solve this case.”
