A Greece Police officer and a Rochester man were taken to the hospital Tuesday morning after police say that man stole candy from a gas station.

Anthony Adams, of Rochester, is charged with petit larceny, resisting arrest and assault.

Police were called to the Hess Gas Station on West Ridge Road just after 8:00am Tuesday for a report of man who had stole some candy. When the officer arrived, he spotted a man who matched the description on nearby Fetzner Road near Chesterton Road. When the officer stopped him and started questioning him, police say Adams started fighting with the officer in the street. The officer was able to subdue Adams with the use of a taser.

Captain Brian Uhrmacher said, “An officer doesn't know from one day to the next what he's going to be dealing with and the unfortunate part of this whole thing is this individual chose to engage an officer in a physical confrontation over some candy that was stolen.”

Adams and the officer were taken to Unity Hospital for treatment. They have since been released. Adams was arraigned in Greece Town Court and remanded to the Monroe County Jail. Adams is not eligible for bail due to his status as a predicate felon.
