Police agencies across the state are getting money to buy new bulletproof vests.

More than $635,000 was distributed statewide and that's enough to buy more than 28,000 vests.

Locally, Ontario County will receive enough money for 26 vests, Wayne County enough for 12 vests, Monroe County enough for 245 vests and the City of Rochester enough for 125 vests.

The money comes from a partnership with the Department of Justice and Local Communities.

Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand co-sponsored the program which splits the cost of new body armor between the government and local communities.
