More than 20 Marcus Whitman student-athletes are facing suspension from participation in athletics after school officials say they attended a party Saturday night where they believe alcohol was served.

The Marcus Whitman Central School District and the Ontario County Sheriff's Office are investigating a party attended by about 30 Marcus Whitman students that took place Saturday night after the homecoming dance. The party was held at the home of a Marcus Whitman student and was not a school function, said Superintendent Mike Chirco.

Undersheriff David Tillman said the sheriff's office is investigating the party, which was hosted by someone above the legal age to consume alcohol, but he did not confirm who it was. No charges have been filed at this time.

According to Gil Jackson, director of health, physical education and athletics, 21 student-athletes violated the district's athletic code.
