A woman from Ontario County is charged with welfare fraud, after police say she received more than $8,000 in public assistance that she wasn't entitled to.
21-year-old Torie Martinez is charged with welfare fraud and offering a false instrument for filing. Investigators say between January 1, 2011 and August 31, 2012 Martinez gave the Department of Social Services five written statements containing false information.
According to police, those five statements then resulted in Martinez unlawfully receiving child care benefits totalling $8,149.33.
Martinez was arraigned in Geneva City Court and released on her own recognizance.
