Democrats called on a heavyweight campaigner to give a boost to two congresswomen involved in close races.

Former President Clinton was in Rochester calling on voters to get behind Louise Slaughter and Kathy Hochul. Slaughter is in a tight race with Republican County Executive Maggie Brooks, while Hochul is in a close race with former Erie County Executive Chris Collins.

The doors at the Main Street Armory opened at 3:08pm. Thousands walked in casually. Clinton’s plane, a private jet, landed at about 3:20pm. His plane left Rochester at 5:40pm.

The event was as big as it gets for a congressional candidate, even a 25 year incumbent like Louise Slaughter. She and Congresswoman Kathy Hochul, getting to share the stage with a popular former president like Bill Clinton.

President Clinton certainly excited the democrats in Rochester. The question is will sway those undecided voters out there in the new 25th congressional district, a true Monroe County district in a longtime.

News10NBC contacted Congresswoman Louise Slaughter’s opponent, Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks, for her response to President Clinton’s visit. She said, “No political rally will change Congresswoman Slaughter’s 26th year record of taking over $5 million in special interest cash then pushing the tax hikes they wanted. Louise even voted against President Clinton’s historic welfare reform legislation, proving she’d rather handout trillions of our tax dollars than get millions of Americans back to work.”
