RGHS issues statement on expanded medication recall

The FDA has issued revised guidelines on a wide range of medication purchased from or produced by the New England Compounding Company (NECC) – the company linked to the tainted steroid shots that have claimed the lives of 20 people.

Based upon then new guidelines, Rochester General Health Systems identified and contacted nine patients who received one of the company’s injectable medications that were administered at Rochester General Hospital or at Newark-Wayne Hospital Community Hospital.

The medication in question is 17-hydroxyprogesterone, which is used for the prevention of pre-term labor for high risk patients.

RGHS says the safety of the drug itself has not been called into question by the FDA.
