On Friday, the two Congressional candidates who have spent the most money and grabbed the most attention met face to face in their first debate.
Congresswoman Louise Slaughter challenged County Executive Maggie Brooks on her budget, claiming Monroe County is hundreds of millions of dollars in the red.
Brooks challenged Slaughter on the federal deficit, regulations and taxes that hurt small businesses.
They were asked about each other's campaign ads, charges of lavish trips for Louise and county scandals on Maggie's watch.
Slaughter said, "Mostly I don't go on fancy European vacations. In fact, Bobby and I don't go on vacations at all. Trust me when I tell you that I am much more likely to go to a Turkish prison than I am to a Turkish bath-- that's just not me."
Brooks said, "I have been disappointed many times by the people that work for me. Having said that, I think the real scandal in this race is the fact that Mrs. Slaughter was found by three independent fact checking organizations to being dishonest with voters."
The latest Siena College poll shows Congresswoman Slaughter leading Maggie Brooks by just a five point margin, 49 percent to 44 percent, with seven percent undecided.
