Friends say he was the kind of person who made you smile. A 19-year-old died Monday morning after crashing his truck in Clifton Springs. According to the Ontario County Sheriff's Office, the teen was Kurt VanCamp of Phelps.
News10NBC spoke with a number of people who knew VanCamp off camera. They said this news is heartbreak and it is just too hard to talk about it right now.
According to Ontario County Sheriff’s Office around 3:00am Monday, a person driving on Route 448 noticed a car that had crashed off the road and called 911. After paramedics and deputies arrived, 19-year-old Kurt VanCamp was pronounced dead. Deputies say he was traveling north on Route 488 when he left the road crashing into a number of stumps and trees, flipping his pickup truck multiple times.
VanCamp went to FLCC and worked since high school at the Clifton Springs Hardware Store.
Undersheriff Dave Tillman says this accident will impact a lot of people.
Undersheriff Dave Tillman, Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, said, “Absolutely a tragedy like you say a nice young man with a bright future and it impacts the entire community.”
Undersheriff Tillman said they believe VanCamp was coming from Canandaigua area, after hanging out with friends and he was on his way home. They are still trying to piece together what exactly lead to the crash and are asking if anyone saw anything in that area early Monday morning to call 911.
Undersheriff Tillman said they can rule out alcohol as a cause. Right now, the truck is being checked out for any kind of mechanical issues.
