There's a brand new taxiway at the Rochester International Airport.
Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks was there Tuesday morning for the unveiling of taxiway "P". It’s part of an effort to improve airfield safety and efficiency for everyone at the airport.
Airport director talked about the significance of adding the new taxiway.
Michael Giardino, Rochester Airport Director, said, "There is no access to the approach end of the runway without this taxiway so it's very significant that we complete the project, put this taxiway in so that aircraft can taxi to and use the full extent of what was put in 2011.”
The new taxiway will be used by large cargo operations like FedEx. Officials say cargo contributions to the airport’s overall economic impact on Monroe County.
