In an incident that took place last weekend, state police have charged a woman who was involved in a fatal crash that killed a Fairport teacher with DWI.
State police say 20-year-old Danielle Schrom, of Macedon, was pulled over on Route 350 in the town of Macedon shortly after 5 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13 after a passerby called to report a vehicle stopped in the road.
When police arrived, Schrom was slumped over in the driver's seat with her vehicle in drive. According to state police spokesman Mark O'Donnell, she was charged with DWI, unlawful possession of alcohol by a minor and other minor charges at the scene.
In July, Schrom was riding as a passenger in Megan Merkel's car after a house party when Merkel's boyfriend, Mark Scerbo III, struck Fairport teacher Heather Boyum with his motorcycle before she was run over by Merkel's vehicle. Both Merkel and Scerbo were charged with manslaughter and DWI.
Schrom later described the event, saying she saw the motorcycle strike Boyum and felt the car run over the bicycle.
She told local media this week that the event caused post traumatic stress.
