A 10-year-old East Rochester boy hit a pedestrian in a plaza parking lot after getting behind the wheel of his mother’s car.

It happened Tuesday morning in the Country Club Plaza on Fairport Road in the Village of East Rochester.

East Rochester Police say the boy was left alone in the car when his mother left her keys on the driver’s seat to go into the store. Police say the boy got behind the wheel, drove a short distance in the parking lot, hitting a pole and a parked car. A man who was trying to stop the car was also hit and suffered a back injury.

The car eventually became stuck when it hit a sign. The boy and his mother are not facing charges at this time.
