Fine for city parking tickets increased

Fine for parking tickets issued in the city of Rochester increased Thursday. It is the first increase of parking ticket fines in more than 10 years. The fine increase was included in the City's fiscal year 2012-13 budget.
The parking fine increases were initially scheduled to take effect July 1, but were delayed to accommodate an upgrade to the information technology system.
Most parking fines will rise by $10 with the exception of parking without a permit in a handicapped marked space and parking within 15 feet of a fire hydrant.
The new fines, all of which include a New York State surcharge of $15 (and an additional $30 for illegal handicapped parking), will be as follows:
* Overtime or expired time for meter, pay station or non-meter parking: From $25 to $35;
* Parking in a restricted area: alternate parking; no parking; parking restrictions during snow operations; expired registration or expired inspection: From $35 to 45;
* Parking less than 15 feet from hydrant: From $70 to $100;
* Parking in a handicapped zone without a placard: From $100 to $145.
All payments for fines for parking tickets are due within 30 calendar days of issue date to avoid accrual of penalties.
