They can't remember a storm like this. The Wegmans company says the storm called Sandy is so big, it's hitting (and affecting) all 81 of the grocery stores in the northeast.
"It's unusual when we've faced something so wide spread that it affected every single store," Wegmans' spokeswoman Jo Natale said.
In fact, the newest store, a Wegmans in Crofton, Maryland, is getting hit today. The store opened yesterday. Natale says the new store was the only one locally with a full stock of bottled water.
Natale tells us there is a run on the usual products. For example: water, milk, butter, peanut butter, eggs and batteries.
Natale says they're doing their best "to work with suppliers to replenish inventory." When the storm passes, Natale says they'll re-evaluate what their customers need. In storms like this, Natale says cleaning supplies get hit hard.
Natale says the Wegmans store in New Jersey and Pennsylvania are seeing the worst of the storm.
All Wegmans store are open, although the stores in the heart of the storm are operating on a skeleton crew.
