The superstorm that devastated New York City caused hundreds of thousands of power outages upstate, knocked trees onto homes, and took the life of a woman when she was hit by windblown debris.
Communities had spent days anxiously preparing for the storm's fury, but upstate New York was relatively unscathed.
Sandy's high winds knocked down trees and utility lines and prompted the closing of schools and local government offices Monday afternoon as national weather forecasters predicted winds gusting up to 75 mph and several inches of rain.
High wind warnings were downgraded to wind advisories Tuesday morning and rainfall predictions fell to less than an inch.
