A 30-year-old man has been found guilty in the 2011 murder of 29-year-old Sheldon Hepburn.
Prosecutors say Sharad Jiles shot Hepburn four times during a home invasion robbery. Jiles was later apprehended several days after the crime in Brighton.
The District Attorney’s Office says in addition to the charge of murder, Jiles was convicted of first-degree robbery and criminal possession of a weapon.
District Attorney Sandra Doorley said, “Any verdict that holds someone like Sharad Jiles accountable and keeps him off our streets is a victory, not just for those of us in law enforcement, but for all of the people of Monroe County. I am exceptionally proud of the two prosecutors assigned to this case and I hope that today’s verdict gives Mr. Hepburn’s still grieving family some measure of closure.”
Jiles faces 25 years to life in prison when sentenced on December 6.
