Hostess products flying off the shelf

What is the hardest thing to find right now on a store shelf? Twinkies or any other Hostess product.
The reason, of course, is due to the announcement that the 80-year-old company is closing shop and no longer making the tasty treats.
At the Wegmans on East Avenue in Rochester, the Hostess section is basically bare. The only Hostess products left are the low-calorie snacks. There are no Twinkies or Cupcakes or Ding Dongs or Ho Ho's. The now empty shelves are being filled with Little Debbie brand snacks.
Mary Schneggenburger was looking for her favorite treats, but left the store empty handed Friday night. "I was looking for the snowballs. That was my guilty pleasure. If I was going to eat one, that was the one I would eat", she says.
She also says it is "a shame to see icons" like Hostess go away, and she is not alone. Fellow shoppers Stephanie McBride and Shaunte Carley talked to News10NBC about how much they loved the Hostess pies. McBride asked anyone who has any left "send them my way." Carley said even though she is "not a chocolate person," she loved the Hostess Chocolate pies.
Both women are well aware that the little snacks are now something of the past. Carley asked the question a lot of people are asking. "How can Hostess not be around anymore?" The company made $2.5 billion dollars in 2011. However, at the same time, Hostess posted a loss of $341 million. Then a strike over the past week by baker's union members concerning wage cuts was the final blow for the company.
Now the loss is on the customers. McBride says "It's sad that my kids won't be able to have a Hostess Twinkie."
That's not necessarily true for two reasons. First, there are hundreds of people selling Twinkies online. We checked on Ebay and you can buy a box for around $10 with free shipping. Some sellers are asking much more. One has three boxes of Twinkies listed for $74.99 and another is asking $500 for one box of Twinkies.
The other reason? Some company could move in and purchase parts of Hostess and bring back Twinkies, Ho Ho's and Ding Dongs.
