Police: 78-year-old man stabbed female neighbor

State Police say a 78-year-old Wayland man is under arrest for stabbing his 48-year-old neighbor in the neck.

Raymond O’Keefe is charged with assault and attempted assault.

Police say the victim, Laura Thomas, was attacked by O’Keefe when she answered a knock at her door just after 5 p.m. Tuesday. Investigators say Thomas’ husband was home at the time of the incident and was able to intervene.

O’Keefe was taken into custody at Belanger Trailer Park. He was arraigned and remanded to the Steuben County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000.
