New mammogram study sheds new light on the test

A new study finds mammograms may not be as helpful as many women believe.

Researchers estimate more than a million women have been treated for cancers that never would have threatened their lives. However, doctors stress mammograms are still worthwhile, because the screenings catch some deadly cancers and save lives.

The saying has been that screening finds cancer early, but many say it's most helpful when it finds cancer destined to cause death.
