The Harley School broke ground Monday morning on Chesonis Commons -- a 21st century LEED certified “living building” on the Harley campus.
Chesonis Commons will house The Briggs Center for Civic Engagement, the Center for Mindfulness and Empathy Education, a new science center and projects space. Operation of the systems of the Commons will be a part of a social curriculum where students work to achieve a net-zero balance in resource consumption.
The $3-million project was funded by a $1-million gift from the Chesonis Family Foundation as well as fundraising and donations. It’s expected to be completed by September 2013.
