New York state troopers are inviting followers to their social media, where they've posted the sketch of a bearded "person of interest" in a Hudson Valley slaying and are updating progress on the case with tweets.

State Police Superintendent Joseph D'Amico says Facebook and Twitter allow them to directly reach people, put safety information out quickly, and let the public know more about what troopers are doing.

Officials say they plan to post information about crime prevention, traffic safety, missing persons and cold cases.

They were requesting help Monday identifying a man seen last week in the town of Hyde Park, where 67-year-old Laurie Ferguson was found dead Thursday in her Mobile Manor Trailer Park Home. Her vehicle was found Friday on Reservoir Road.
