A new report from health advocacy groups says New York ranks 21st among states in funding tobacco prevention programs.
New York spends $41.4 million a year for tobacco prevention programs. But a report released Thursday by the American Cancer Society and other groups says that state spending amounts to 16 percent of what the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends.
Blair Horner of the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network says funding for the state's tobacco prevention program has been cut by more than half in the past few years.
