Wayne County man charged in the death of his elderly mother

A Wayne County man is facing charges in the death of his elderly mother. Daniel Burkwit, 50, of Huron, is charged with second degree manslaughter.

Sheriff's officials were called to a home on Bonnie Castle Road in Huron on October 21 for a report of a possible death. Following an investigation, the body of 75-year-old Marcia Burkwit was found in a wooded area approximately one mile from the home.

Her body was wrapped in a blanket and covered in leaves. Investigators believe Marcia Burkwit fell and broke her neck during a physical altercation with her son. Daniel Burkwit was arraigned in Lyons Town Court and taken to the Wayne County Jail on no bail.

Wayne County Sheriff Barry Virts will hold a press conference on the arrest on Monday, December 10 at 1 p.m.
