Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks announced Wednesday morning that United Airlines, Southwest Airlines and Delta Airlines have signed a new lease which means the airlines promise to operate out of Rochester until December 2015.
It’s expected that US Airways, American Eagle and JetBlue will sign the agreement as well.
Brooks said, "The airports all about economic development and when we talk about wanting to create jobs and opportunity in the community, the airports a big player in that, it's a big resource. If you don't have access to low cost airfares, access to other markets for business travelers, you're not competitive."
According to the state Department of Transportation, the Rochester airport is responsible for creating and sustaining 10,000 jobs, generating almost $300-million in income and contributing more than $800-million to the local economy.
