This time of year is unfortunately when burglaries tend to take place.
The Rochester Police Department is giving out advice on how to keep your home from being a target.
First of all, officers suggest storing ladders in a basement or locked garage so burglars aren't able to access your second floor windows.
Second, make sure your doors and windows are locked or dead bolted.
Also, if you are out of town, make sure someone is getting your newspaper and shoveling snow so it looks like you're home.
Finally, don't leave the boxes all your new toys came in out by the road. It's an invitation for thieves to come in a steal those items. Break down the boxes and conceal them inside a recycling bin.
