Webster Police have found human remains inside the home of the man they say shot four firefighters in Webster on Monday. Police believe the remains are that of the shooter's sister.
At a news conference Tuesday afternoon, Webster Police say they found human remains at 191 Lake Road, which is the home of William Spengler, the man police say shot four firefighters Monday in an ambushed attack. Those remains have been taken to the Medical Examiner's Office to be identified and to determine a cause of death. The Webster Police Chief Gerald Pickering says the fire was so hot and that it burned for so long, it may be a while for them to determine a cause of death and identify the remains.
Police believe the remains are that of Spengler's sister, Cheryl, who has been missing since the shooting on Monday. News10NBC has been hearing that Spengler and his sister had a volatile relationship.
Police say William Spengler was "equipped to go to war and kill innocent people." They say they may never really know what his motive was.
Police are working on trying to find out where Spengler got his weapons and ammunition .
Investigators checked the other homes that were destroyed for any additional victims and said they found none.
At an earlier news conference, Webster Police released information about a note that was left behind by Spengler.
