The family of an Iraq War veteran killed when he fell out of "The Ride of Steel" at Darien Lake has reached a settlement with the amusement park.
The Buffalo News is reporting the family has agreed to a seven-figure settlement of a wrongful-death lawsuit.
Sergeant James Hackemer of Gowanda lost both his legs in a roadside bombing in 2008 while he was stationed Iraq.
In 2011, Hackemer fell out of “The Ride of Steel” roller coaster at Darien Lake and was killed. The Department of Labor cited "operator error" for the incident.
Hackemer left behind two young girls and according to The Buffalo News, they will be the primary beneficiaries of the settlement.
