Condoms in City Schools start next week

The program to offer free condoms in the Rochester City School District begins Monday. It gives access to condoms for every high school student (through the nurse's office). Parents can sign an opt-out form if they object.

The district is doing it because there were 1,000 teenage pregnancies in city zip codes in 2010. Half of new HIV infections happen in young people between 15 and 24 and 58-percent of all city high school students say they're sexually active.

Who's paying for all these condoms? And what's to stop a teen from passing on a condom to a friend whose parents opted-out? Those are questions we're going to ask the district today.
