A jail deputy in Livingston County has been charged with bringing contraband into the jail and giving it to inmates.

Robert J. Schleyer, 32, of Dansville, is charged with promoting prison contraband and receiving a reward for official misconduct. Schleyer was a 5- year veteran of the Livingston County Sheriff's Office and was assigned as a jail deputy. News10NBC was told he has resigned from the sheriff's office.

Livingston County Sheriff's Deputies say Schleyer was charged after an investigation found he was bringing contraband into the jail and giving it to inmates.

Schleyer was arraigned in Geneseo Village Court. He posted $2,500 bail and will appear in court at a later date.
