State police say a man is hospitalized after he was hit by a passing truck while pushing his vehicle when it ran out of gas on the Thruway near Buffalo.

Troopers say John Haak of Angola was pushing his pickup truck from the right lane to the shoulder of the westbound side of Interstate 90 when he was hit by a box truck shortly before 3 a.m. between exits 54 and 55 in West Seneca.

Police say Haak suffered a fractured shoulder and pelvis. He's listed in serious but stable condition at Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo.
