A challenge to the community to raise $26 million. The United Way of Greater Rochester announced the goal for its annual campaign Thursday morning at the Memorial Art Gallery. This year's goal is a half million dollar increase over last year.

This year, campaign chair Joel Seligman is encouraging people to donate to the community fund specifically. It supports 70 programs that help all walks of life from giving babies the best start to supporting caregivers.

Seligman, who is also the University of Rochester President, explained some challenges the campaign faces this year.

Seligman said, “We've faced some challenges. About $2.5 million less in our base. But people are energized about this community and revitalization of Rochester. We've seen preliminary results that have been inspiring.”

Any new or increased gifts to the community fund will be doubled thanks to the Hurlburt Foundation.
