A fifth grader's passion and love for animals helped her to do the right thing.

Florence Brasser Elementary School fifth grader Alexandra Neu took that passion and got others involved. She helped the group, “PAWS” raise money during its “Sit in the Paws” event, where people spent the night outside. Neu wanted to raise awareness for neglected and abused animals. She says she wanted to get involved because she attended a previous event and saw more could be done to help.

Alexandra Neu, “Do the Right Thing” Winner, said, “They didn't raise as much money as they wanted to make and I thought these people need help and I wanted to do something about it cause I'm not the type that just lets people sit there and stand alone and stuff.”

In total, the event raised $23,000. The money was used to purchase pet supplies and provide educational and training pet programs.
