News10NBC has learned that the Buffalo Bills have released quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.
The team announced the move Tuesday, shortly after the NFL's free agency period opened, and a day before Fitzpatrick was due a $3 million bonus.
Bills General Manager Buddy Nix said, "We had to do what we feel is best for our football team and it was a very difficult decision. Our focus remains on adding another quarterback to our roster and we will continue to explore every option available to us. "
In four seasons with the Bills, Fitzpatrick had a record of 19-31, threw 11,654 yards, 80 touchdowns and 64 interceptions.
Tarvaris Jackson is currently on the only quarterback on the Bills roster.
