There has been a lot of focus on the low attendance numbers at some of the schools in the Rochester City School District. But there are also nearly 10,000 students in the district who have perfect or excellent attendance.
Superintendent Bolgen Vargas and Rochester Mayor Tom Richards went door to door to personally recognize a handful of those students by giving them a special certificate. Superintendent Vargas says these students can be role models for the rest of the district.
Bolgen Vargas, RCSD superintendent, said, “We will continue to work on putting every effort to make sure all our children are coming to school on a regular basis. This group of students that we are recognizing, over 10,000 of them are roll models, many of them are facing significant challenges, but yet they manage to get to school daily."
Many of the students recognized go to School No. 4, No. 17, No. 22 and No. 30. The same schools which also have some of the lowest attendance rates in the district.
