A growing number of people are both online and on the move. That's the finding of a new report from the Pew Internet And American Life Project.
It finds that 78-percent of youngsters ages 12 to 17 now have cellphones and that nearly half of those devices are smartphones. That means they are able to surf the Internet without having to be tied to a desktop or laptop.
While in the past, most young people would access the Internet through a home computer, one in four young people say they are "cell-mostly" Internet users and half of young smartphone users use the Internet on a mobile device.
The shift in the way young people use the Internet has implications for parents and marketers. Parents who try to keep tabs on Internet use by keeping a computer in common areas are finding that kids now have an easy workaround for such monitoring. And marketers are looking to find new ways to sell products and services to those who take their Internet on the go.
