Fire officials say a house fire that broke out in Rochester Wednesday night could have been much worse if it had happened in the middle of the night.

They say the home did not have working smoke detectors.

Firefighters were called to Lehigh Avenue between Genesee Park Boulevard and Thurston Road around 7:30 p.m.

The fire broke out in a second floor bedroom.

Officials say the fire was contained there, but it caused extensive damage.

Investigators say the cause appears to be accidental but it is still under investigation.
