Two Genesee County men are under arrest after police say they caused more than $32,000 dollars worth of damage after stealing copper wire from the Dolomite facility in Leroy.
28-year-old Michael Nicometo, of Leroy, and 22-year-old Jonathan Smoak, of Batavia are both facing charges of burglary, grand larceny and criminal mischief, all felonies.
According to the Genesee County Sheriff's Office, the men stole a significant amount of copper wire from the facility after cutting it from the electrical system. The theft of the wire caused extensive damage to the facility's system.
Investigators say the costs to replace the wiring and repair the damage that had been caused were estimated at over $32,000.
Smoak and Nicometo are due in Leroy Town Court in April and May, respectively.
