Did you know one in three adults in our community has high blood pressure? On Monday, a new community-wide initiative kicked off to help make Rochester the healthiest community in the country.
A news conference Monday morning introduced the "Eat Well, Live well, Blood Pressure Challenge". It’s a collaboration between the Finger Lakes Health Systems agency, the Rochester Business Alliance and Wegmans.
The eight-week program has more than 80 organizations enrolled in the challenge. The goal: to raise awareness of the dangers of high blood pressure and to know your own blood pressure numbers.
Wegmans CEO Danny Wegman said, “The way to get good blood pressure, is you eat properly. Hopefully that's lot of fruits and vegetables. You get exercise and if those two things don't work for you, you can take a pill and still have great blood pressure.”
