Some Rochester area families learned how to stretch their family food budget and find healthy foods on Tuesday.
The event was part of a joint effort from the Foodlink's Cooking Matters' team and the Greater Rochester Health Foundation's 5-2-1-0 campaign.
Close to 60 families toured grocery stores like Wegmans, Tops, Walmart and Price Rite to get tips and tools to smarter shopping and healthier eating.
“Part of this learning experience today was learning how to have patience to walk through the store learn the different areas of eating healthy and learn how to shop more wisely,” Stefanie Davis, who participated in the event.
Larkin Kimmerer, with Foodlink, says some of the tips that were shared included the best way to buy fruits and veggies on a budget and comparing unit prices and understanding food labels.
