A Buffalo teenager faces multiple charges, including a violation under the New York SAFE Act, after police say he was in possession of an illegal weapon.
Officers arrested 18-year-old Darquane McDuffie of Buffalo early Sunday morning after he allegedly jumped out of the back of a vehicle that was being stopped by police near the intersection of Stanislaus and Sweet on Buffalo's East Side.
Investigators say he ran off, and when police chased after him, he tossed his loaded pistol. Officers say they recovered it in the driveway of a home on Stanislaus Street.
The weapon was carrying 12 rounds, according to officers, which is a violation of the SAFE Act, which restricts the number of rounds in a magazine to 7.
