The first responders that were injured during the Christmas Eve ambush in Webster were honored at Frontier Field on Saturday as a part of the Rochester Red Wings home opener.
Firefighters Joseph Hofstetter, Ted Scardino and Greece Police Officer Jonathon Ritter all threw out the opening pitches for the Rochester Red Wings Saturday afternoon. Hofstetter and Scardino were shot while responding to the fires set on Lake Road on Christmas Eve. Officer Ritter was also injured while responding to the fires.
All three posed for a picture with other firefighters and players following the opening pitches.
News10NBC spoke with the Red Wings General Manager Dan Mason about the ceremony.
“I think that's really what we try to do is make Opening Day special for everyone in our community. It's not just about baseball, but a celebration of what's happening in our community, and a new beginning. Optimism is never higher than it is here on Opening Day, and we're happy that so many people, especially area first responders could partake in today's festivities,” said Mason.
