The Rochester Rhinos kick off their season this weekend. The team is going back to a familiar look this year.
The Rhinos are getting ready for their new season. On Thursday, they unveiled their jerseys, returning to the colors green and gold. The Rhinos will open their season this weekend in Tampa.
Second-year head coach Jesse Myers is returning 13 players from last year's roster including USL Pro Goalkeeper of the Year, Kristian Nicht and USL Pro Defender of the Year, Troy Roberts.
The Rhinos had the second best defensive record in the league, but needed to add some goal scorers, which they have. The team also has an agreement with the MLS to share up and coming players with the New England Revolution.
Now all the team needs is time to gel. Due to the weather, training and preseason have been cut short.
Matt Luzunaris, Rhinos Forward, said, “Due to the weather, it was difficult. Orlando has had 2-3 months of training and preseason, that's a long time. We're professionals, this is what we do, we'll get it done.”
Jesse Myers, Rhinos Head Coach, said, “We are the last team to start training. The cold spring is hard, so to get away and see some sunshine will be good for everyone.”
The Rhinos kick off their 18th season with a road trip to Florida, starting Saturday against VSI Tampa Bay. Then the team travels to Orlando for a tough match with last year's regular season champions, The Orlando City Lions, on Sunday. The Rhinos' home opener is Saturday May 4 against Harrisburg City.
