April is Autism Awareness Month and in Canandaigua on Friday, the Happiness House went “behind the scenes” with its third annual conference on autism.
The event featured keynote speaker Judy Endow -- a Harvard graduate and talented playwright, author and actress who lives with autism.
Organizers say the goal is to help give the community a better understanding of autism.
Lynn D’Amico of Happiness House said, “We see such a need in the community to broaden the understanding of autism, but also bring topics to the forefront that are pertinent to anyone working in the field and also family and allowing them to get critical information that they might not otherwise have.”
Recent studies from the CDC show that nearly one in 88 children are diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder.
