Many users and critics would disagree but Facebook says an independent audit has found its privacy practices are sound.

Facebook says it spent six months having an outsider look into how it collects and disseminates information about its users. And the social networking site has submitted its findings to the Federal Trade Commission.

The audit was a required part of Facebook's settlement with the FTC last summer. The settlement resolved charges that Facebook exposed details about its users' lives without getting the required legal consent.
