This weekend is a big time milestone for a local brewery.

The Genesee Brewing Company is celebrating 80 years of operation since prohibition.

Visitors were invited to take a look back to see how the brewery sprang back to life after closing its doors for 14 years during that time.

Officials talked to News10NBC about why this milestone is so special and significant.

"It's one of only a handful and we take a lot of pride in that, in our ability to endure, and we owe a lot of that to our fans of the brand. Our brew house is a way to let people in and embrace the brand and we haven't really had anything like this for a long time,” said Paul Constantine from Genesee Brewery.

Officials say hundreds of breweries opened in the wake of prohibition, but less than a dozen were actually able to survive like Genesee did.
