A 19-year-old Buffalo man has pleaded guilty to animal cruelty after setting a puppy on fire and then bragging that the widely reported case made him famous.

Erie County District Attorney Frank Sedita III says Adell Ziegler's guilty plea Monday could lead to a prison term of up to two years when he's sentenced in June.

Ziegler's nephew, Diondre Brown, pleaded guilty earlier.

Prosecutors say Ziegler admitted pouring lighter fluid on the Jack Russell terrier last October and then lighting it on fire. The pup, nicknamed "Phoenix," was severely burned but survived, with his recovery closely tracked by Buffalo media outlets.

Sedita says Ziegler has boasted to family and friends that the case made him famous.
