A court-martial hearing has been scheduled for an Alaska-based soldier from South Carolina, who is charged with killing another soldier on Christmas Day.

The hearing will be conducted Wednesday for Spec. Marshall D. Drake, who is accused of shooting Pfc. Grant W. Wise of Fairport. The shooting occurred December 25 in Drake's barracks room on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage.

The Army charged Drake with involuntary manslaughter, negligent homicide and failure to obey regulations.

Authorities say in a release that Drake, a native of Mount Pleasant, S.C., waived his right to an Article 32 hearing in February. The case was referred to a general court martial.

The shooting and other disciplinary problems prompted the Army to ban alcohol in all barracks at its Alaska installations.
