A 24-year-old police officer is dead after an off-duty motorcycle accident near Buffalo.

Fredrick Garassi, of the Town of Evans Police Department, was killed Friday when his bike collided with a car in Hamburg.

He was 24 and lived in Angola.

The Buffalo News reports that Garassi joined the force in 2011 and was hired as a full-time officer earlier this year.

The newspaper reported that the accident happened about six-hours after Garassi finished an overnight shift at the department, while he was on his way to a dentist appointment.

The 65-year-old driver of the other car wasn't seriously injured.

Hamburg Police are investigating the accident.
