A woman in Orleans County is accused of receiving welfare benefits she wasn't entitled to, and when police executed a search warrant at her home in Albion, investigators say they discovered two men who were living there had entered the country illegally.
The Orleans County Sheriffs Office says Mary Cruz, 32, was arrested after a two month investigation.
Investigators say from April 2010 to this past March, Cruz received more than $46,000 in day care benefits she wasn't entitled to. Cruz is charged with 3rd degree grand larceny and 3rd degree welfare fraud.
One of the men, Rochel Carrillo-Ramos, 24, is charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument. Investigators say he re-entered the U.S. after being deported. The second man, Marvin Ramirez-Tomas, who police say entered the U.S.without inspection, is being held on a federal detainer.
Police say the investigation is ongoing and further charges and arrests are pending.
